We just had a quiz on point of view. Most students performed very well on the quiz. If your child needs more practice, the following link can be of great help. It has several practice sheets/answer keys that can be explored.

Reading Responses
I just wanted to remind everyone that students should be finishing up a book this week and beginning a reading response to stay on the timeline of getting two reading responses completed by Friday, October 11th.
I continue to encourage students to complete their reading responses on Googledocs and share them with me for feedback prior to turning in for final grading. I have reminded them that my job is to offer feedback rather than to make their work perfect. I am not serving as an editor but rather letting students know where they need to focus their attention to improve their work.
In order to type directly onto one of the blank templates, students MUST FIRST MAKE THEIR OWN COPY.
HOW?????
Open the blank template page that you would like to use located to the right under the ELA tab. You will see a blue box that says "view only," which means you cannot type on the document. To change this, click on file, make a copy, and then you may rename the document/type on it. Please erase the lines before typing otherwise the lines will just be pushed along the page making a big mess.
When you rename, please type your first and last name and the book title that you are working on.

Great Start!
This has been a great start to the school year, and students seem eager to learn which is a teacher's dream! Students fill out their agendas daily in ELA. For the most part, everyday homework is reading. Read, read, read... a minimum of thirty minutes per night.
Most students are currently reading a fiction book. We have been discussing character traits and using examples from the text to support their word choice. This concept makes up half of the fiction book reading response requirement. We have also discussed that a summary of a book must include an introduction of the main character(s), and an overview of the major events of the story related to the problem and solution. The summary is the second half of the fiction reading response.
Additionally, we have discussed the timeline of the first due date, which is October 11th. As of today, students have four and a half weeks to read two books AND complete two reading responses. Students know that they need to be working diligently to finished reading their first book choice so that they may be able to begin their first reading response within the next two weeks.

Thank you
Thank you all for the classroom donations! We have plenty of hand sanitizer/disinfecting wipes to last us through the entire school year! I may reach out again for tissues at some point. We have plenty for now, but you would be amazed at how quickly a box of tissues empties in a classroom. Thanks again for your support. It is greatly appreciated 😊

Reading Responses
Students will be getting more information regarding reading responses. We are currently waiting for copies. However, in the meantime, there is a link to the right under that ELA tab that outlines all of the reading expectations for the year. Students should be reading thirty minutes every night and two reading responses are due by Friday, October 11th, which is the midpoint of the first trimester.
Four reading responses are due per trimester. Two by the midpoint and two towards the end.
